Troubleshooting
The following hints will solve the most common problems when using TV Clear for the first time.
Do you have any of the following situations?
- First connection to TV transmitter does not work
- Bluetooth pairing to the phone does not start
- The product does not charge properly
The reason is almost always an ear adapter that is not placed correctly.
There should only be a minimal gap visible between the rubber rim and the earphone rim.
The two claws at the top of the ear adapter rim (1) must snap into the two grooves on the earbud (2).
This is best achieved by placing the earbud with the button side down on a non-scratching surface, and then carefully sliding the rubber part down towards the earbud with your fingers.
So if you have one of the situations described above during setup
- check the correct fit of the two ear adapters as described above
- place both earbuds in the charging case again. The corresponding LED must light up
- close the lid of the charging case
- open the charging case again and wait 10 seconds
- after that the system is ready for use

How to install the TV Connector transmitter on your TV for the first time
One “TV Connector” transmitter can be paired with an infinite number of TV Clear devices so that you can use the same transmitter if you have more than one pair of earbuds.
To install the Sennheiser TV Clear set for the first time
1. Connect the micro-USB cable to the transmitter.
2. If an optical output (Toslink) is available on your TV, connect the thinner 3.5 mm plug of the optical cable to the 3.5 mm socket of the transmitter, then connect the other end of the optical cable to the TV's optical output.
Note: Alternatively you can use the analog 3.5 mm cable with an audio or headphone output on your TV.
4. Connect the USB cable to a power supply (5 VDC, >=500 mA), or use an USB socket on the back of your TV.
5. Switch on your TV. The LED on the back of the transmitter lights up green when power is available.
6. IMPORTANT: In the audio settings for your TV, set the digital audio output format to “PCM” or “Stereo”, but NOT Dolby.
7. Open the charging case first AND leave both earbuds inside the case for 10 seconds (after this initial opening the earbuds receive the final pairing information from the case).
8. Take the earbuds out of the charging case and the transmission of the TV audio will start automatically.
If they are not streaming
• If you purchased the TV Clear earbuds and the TV Connector streamer separately you must perform a manual pairing process first as described in this FAQ article .
• If you are using the optical cable, you must ensure that the digital audio output format is set to “PCM” or “Stereo”, but NOT Dolby. If this is not possible, you should use the analog audio cable instead.
Information about using the analog audio cable
• The TV loudspeaker may switch off when you plug in the analog audio cable. Please check your TV’s user guide for how to configure the TV loudspeaker.
• With most TVs, the volume of the headphone output can be adjusted separately. Make sure it is set to a high enough level.
How to manually pair Sennheiser TV Clear with your mobile phone or the TV Connector transmitter
Note: You only need to carry out the pairing process with a new device once. After the initial pairing, re-connection happens automatically.
Exception: If you purchased the TV Clear as a set with earbuds and the transmitter in the same box, the pairing will have already been done. On the very first use, it is important to wait 10 seconds after opening the lid of the charging case before taking out the earbud. See this article for details.
Put the TV Clear earbuds into pairing mode first
1. Place both earbuds in the charging case correctly.
• If the LEDs do not light up green but orange or red, charge the earbuds first.
• After a short press (<0.5 sec) of the pairing button, all 3 LEDs must light up. If this is not the case, clean the charging contacts, ensure the ear adapters are correctly mounted , and re-insert the buds in the case once again.
2. Press and hold the pairing button for 2 seconds until you see the middle LED flashing blue.
• If it does not start flashing, check point 1 again.
• You may need to close and re-open the lid, then press the button again for 2 seconds.
3. Wait until all 3 indicator lights flash blue (this can take up to 10 seconds) then continue the process with the phone (A) or the transmitter (B) as described below.
A: Pairing with the mobile phone
A1. Ensure Bluetooth is switched on on the phone.
A2. While all 3 LEDs are flashing blue on the TV Clear charging case, the “Sennheiser TV Clear” will show up in the list of devices on your phone.
A3. Select “Sennheiser TV Clear” to complete the pairing process. Depending on the phone, you may need to confirm the pairing process again.
A4. Once the pairing process is completed, the blue LEDs will stop flashing.
B: Pairing with the "TV Connector" transmitter
B1. Ensure the transmitter is connected to the power cable and you can see a green LED on the back.
B2. While all 3 LEDs are flashing blue on the charging case, briefly press the button on the back of the transmitter.
B3. Once the pairing process is completed, the blue LEDs will stop flashing.
Notes:
• After pairing, the earbuds will be “soft ejected” and will already be connected to the phone. This is the only time when the earbuds are in the case but connected to your device. In future they will only be able to connect when they are out of the charging case.
• After pairing, the left earbud is the primary earbud and it is best to take this one out of the charging case this first time.
Maximum number of paired devices
• A maximum of 6 devices can be paired to the earbuds and a maximum of 4 of those devices can be “TV Connector” transmitters.
• If a 7th device is paired this replaces the device that has been unused for the longest period.
• One “TV Connector” transmitter can be paired with an infinite number of TV Clear devices so that you can use the same transmitter if you have more than one pair of earbuds.
How to reset the Sennheiser TV Clear Earbuds
In the rare case where your TV Clear earbuds are unresponsive, or if you simply would like to restore the factory settings, you can reset them as follows.
Soft reset
(your settings are kept)
1. Press the button on each earbud for 15 seconds. You can do both at the same time or one after the other.
2. Place the right earbud in the charging case and wait for 10 seconds.
3. Then place the left earbud in the case and wait for another 10 seconds.
4. Now continue to use them normally.
Factory reset
If the soft reset did not solve the problem, try a factory reset.
Note: This will delete all paired devices and restore the factory default settings.
1. Place both earbuds in the charging case.
2. Ensure all 3 LEDs light up when you open the lid of the charging case. You should also ensure that the rubber ear adapter is correctly placed on the earbud and the earbuds sit firmly in the charging case.
3. Press and hold the pairing button for 2 seconds until you see a flashing blue LED.
4. Wait until all 3 LEDs flash blue. This may take up to 30 seconds.
5. As soon as all 3 LEDs flash blue, press the pairing button twice and the LEDs will flash orange now.
6. Wait until the orange flashing stops. This may take up to 20 seconds.
7. Now you have to re-pair them with your device.
Learn how the controls work on the Sennheiser TV Clear earbuds
The Sennheiser TV Clear earbuds offer three ways to control various features.
Button control
Each earbud has a real button with a click feeling in the middle of the button surface. The right button is “up/more”, the left button is “down/less” and is not configurable.
• A short press (<0.5 sec) adjusts the volume.
• A long press (press and hold for > 2 sec) changes the Speech Clarity program.
• An ultra-long press (press and hold for >15 sec) will switch off the earbud.
Configurable Touch Control
The Touch Control can be configured via the TV Clear app. The default configuration is:
• Left = Pause/Resume.
• Right = Ambient Awareness Off/On.
To trigger the feature, double-tap gently but decisively on the frame of the earbud.
Notes:
• Other features can be selected and configured using the TV Clear app.
• The controls only work if the earbud is inserted into your ear.
Automatic streaming pause
By default, the audio stream will be paused when you take the second earbud out of your ear. The TV Clear app allows you to change the default behavior in “Settings - Pause on earbud removal”.
